Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of starshotgenesis.com, Starshot Genesis browser and development builds, leaderboards, authentication APIs, multiplayer services, and related marketing materials published by Happy Robot Shop (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing the site, creating a game account, submitting scores, or joining multiplayer, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
Steam purchases are also subject to the Steam Subscriber Agreement and Valve’s policies. Happy Robot Shop studio terms at happyrobotshop.com/terms.html may apply to studio-wide services.
1. The Game
Starshot Genesis is a space combat arcade shooter available on Steam and, where offered, through browser or development builds on starshotgenesis.com. Features, platforms, multiplayer availability, and pricing may change.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create a Starshot Genesis web/game account, use online leaderboards, or join multiplayer. Steam storefront age ratings and regional restrictions may also apply to paid Steam versions. Parents or guardians are responsible for any underage use of devices they control.
3. Accounts and Security
You are responsible for the confidentiality of your credentials and for activity under your account. Creating or signing into an account constitutes acceptance of these Terms. We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts that are abusive, fraudulent, insecure, or harmful to the service or other players.
4. Leaderboards and Fair Play
Leaderboards and score submissions are provided for competitive and entertainment purposes. You may not cheat, automate abusive submissions, exploit bugs to inflate scores, impersonate others, or interfere with anti-cheat or rate-limiting systems. We may remove scores, reset leaderboards, or ban accounts at our discretion.
5. Multiplayer
Multiplayer sessions share your username and real-time gameplay state with other participants in the same room. Multiplayer is provided “as available,” may include bots, and may be modified or discontinued. Do not harass other players or attempt to disrupt rooms, servers, or WebSocket connections.
6. Steam Purchases
Paid Steam copies are sold through Valve. Refunds, regional pricing, platform requirements, and Steam account issues are handled under Steam’s policies unless Happy Robot Shop expressly states otherwise for a specific promotion. Ownership of a Steam license does not automatically create a starshotgenesis.com web account.
7. License and Intellectual Property
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to play Starshot Genesis for personal, non-commercial entertainment. Happy Robot Shop and its licensors retain all rights in the game, branding, code, art, and audio. You may not copy, redistribute, reverse engineer (except where prohibited by law), commercially exploit, or extract soundtrack assets outside authorized gameplay.
In-game music includes licensed Epidemic Sound material and custom sound design. Credits appear on the marketing site and in-game where shown.
8. User Content and Public Display
Usernames and scores may be displayed publicly on leaderboards. You grant Happy Robot Shop a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and operate that gameplay data as part of the service.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the websites or game services, including unauthorized access, scraping at abusive volumes, malware distribution, payment fraud related to Steam or other storefronts, or any unlawful conduct.
10. Third-Party Services
The service may rely on hosting providers, YouTube embeds, Steam, font delivery, and other third parties. Their terms and privacy practices apply to your use of those services.
11. Disclaimers
STARSHOT GENESIS AND RELATED SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, UNINTERRUPTED AVAILABILITY, AND ERROR-FREE OPERATION.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HAPPY ROBOT SHOP WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST SCORES, LOST DATA, SERVICE INTERRUPTION, OR MULTIPLAYER DISRUPTION. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS RELATING TO THE FREE WEB SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED $100, AND FOR PAID STEAM PURCHASES WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE GAME COPY GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM (SUBJECT TO STEAM’S REFUND RULES WHERE APPLICABLE).
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Happy Robot Shop from claims arising out of your misuse of the game or services or your violation of these Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise. Subject to mandatory consumer protections, exclusive venue lies in the state or federal courts located in Hays County, Texas.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms as the game and services change. Continued use after posting constitutes acceptance, except where law requires otherwise.
